Charlemagne Becomes Sole Monarch- Beginning the Holy Roman Empire.... Today in History

Charlemagne became king of what became knows as the Holy Roman Empire in 768, following the death of his father. However, Charlemagne or Charles the Great co-ruled with his brother King Carloman until 771, ascending the throne as sole ruler of the kingdom after his brother's death.
